MCP Works with the Claude connector

Documentation templates

Start from a structure instead of a blank page. Five page templates are built into the OpenDocs editor, and six site blueprints show how to build a whole docs site with Claude in one conversation.

Page templates

Five templates in the editor

When you create a page, the template picker offers Blank plus these five. Picking one pre-fills the block editor with headings and placeholder text that you replace. The Claude connector’s create_page tool accepts the same template keys.

Getting Started

Template key: getting-started

A welcome guide for a product or project: what it is, what you need before you start, and the first steps to get it running.

Use in the editor: create a page and choose Getting Started in the template picker.

Ask Claude

Claude
In my Product Docs space, create a Getting Started page from the getting-started template. Then fill it in for [product]: the prerequisites are [list] and the setup steps are [steps].

API Reference

Template key: api-reference

One page per endpoint: an overview, the method and path, a parameters table, an example response and the error codes.

Use in the editor: create a page and choose API Reference in the template picker.

Ask Claude

Claude
In my API Docs space, create a page called "List invoices" from the api-reference template. Then fill it in for GET /v1/invoices using these details: [parameters, example response, error codes].

Changelog

Template key: changelog

Version history that readers can scan: a date, a version number, and what was added, changed and fixed.

Use in the editor: create a page and choose Changelog in the template picker.

Ask Claude

Claude
In my Release Notes space, create a "Version 2.4" page from the changelog template, then fill in the Added, Changed and Fixed sections from these notes: [notes].

FAQ

Template key: faq

Short answers to the questions your customers or teammates ask most, one heading per question.

Use in the editor: create a page and choose FAQ in the template picker.

Ask Claude

Claude
In my Help Center space, create an FAQ page from the faq template, then answer these questions: [list of questions].

Troubleshooting

Template key: troubleshooting

Common problems, each with a warning callout that names the cause and the steps that solve it.

Use in the editor: create a page and choose Troubleshooting in the template picker.

Ask Claude

Claude
Create a Troubleshooting page from the template in my Support space, then write up these common issues with a warning and a solution for each: [issues].

Site blueprints

Site blueprints you build with Claude

Before you run a blueprint: connect OpenDocs from Claude’s connector directory with read-and-edit access. The connector works on every plan, including Free. Each blueprint creates one new space, and the Free plan includes 1 space, so on Free run one blueprint or ask Claude to build it inside your existing space. New spaces start unpublished, so nothing is live until you ask Claude to publish the space or publish it yourself. Claude asks before it replaces a page’s text, and every change is saved in page history.

Frequently asked questions

Which page templates does the OpenDocs editor include?

Six: Blank, Getting Started, API Reference, Changelog, FAQ and Troubleshooting. When you create a page, choose one in the template picker and the block editor opens pre-filled with its headings and placeholder text.

Can Claude create pages from these templates?

Yes. The OpenDocs connector’s create_page tool accepts the same template keys: blank, getting-started, api-reference, changelog, faq and troubleshooting. Name the template and the space in your request, for example “create a Troubleshooting page from the template in my Support space”.

Do I need a paid plan to use the blueprints?

No. The Claude connector for claude.ai and Claude Desktop works on every plan, including Free. The Free plan includes 1 space, and each blueprint creates one, so on Free run one blueprint or ask Claude to build it inside your existing space. Claude Code connects with an API key, which needs an Enterprise or Compliance plan.

Will the new site go live as soon as Claude builds it?

No. Spaces Claude creates start unpublished, so readers see nothing until the space is published. The blueprint prompts ask Claude to stop and show you the page tree; publish when you are ready, by asking Claude or from OpenDocs.

What language is the template text in?

The template headings and placeholder text are in English. Ask Claude to fill the page in the language you need, or edit it in the editor. When Claude creates a space it can also set the space’s language, for example Spanish or Portuguese.

Can I change the structure after Claude builds it?

Yes. Ask Claude to rename, move or reorder pages and sections, or change them in the OpenDocs editor. Every change Claude makes is saved in page history, so you can restore an earlier version.
