Help center with Claude

Build your help center with Claude

Describe your product and your most common support questions. Claude plans the sections, writes the articles and publishes them to a help center your customers can search, on your own domain.

The hard part of a help center is not the software

Most help centers stall at the same point: a blank page tree and a backlog of articles nobody has time to write. The support team knows the answers, because they type them into tickets every day, but turning those answers into structured, published articles is a project that keeps slipping.

Claude is well suited to that project. It can take a list of questions, a product description or a batch of past replies and turn them into clear, consistent articles. What it needs is a place to put them where they become a real help center: organized into sections, searchable, published on your domain and easy to update. That is what OpenDocs provides, and because OpenDocs connects to Claude through MCP, Claude writes straight into it.

From empty account to live help center

The step-by-step guide takes about ten minutes. In short:

  1. Sign up. Create a free OpenDocs account. It starts with a 14-day Pro trial, no card required.
  2. Connect Claude. In claude.ai or Claude Desktop, find OpenDocs in Claude’s connector directory and choose Connect. The connector works on every plan, including Free.
  3. Generate the structure. Ask Claude to create a Help Center space with sections such as Getting Started, Account & Billing and Troubleshooting.
  4. Generate the first articles. Ask for a getting-started article, then three troubleshooting articles for your most common tickets.
  5. Publish. Review the drafts, then ask Claude to publish the space, or publish it yourself.
  6. Add your domain (optional, Pro). Point a domain such as help.yourcompany.com at your help center with a DNS record.

Prompts that produce useful articles

Claude writes better help articles when you give it the raw material your team already has. A few patterns work well:

  • Start from real tickets. “Draft three troubleshooting articles for these support questions: [paste them]. One article per question, with numbered steps.”
  • Keep one topic per article. Short, focused articles are easier to search and easier to keep up to date than one long page.
  • Ask for a consistent shape. A one-line summary at the top, then steps, then what to do if it still does not work.
  • Leave it as a draft. “Create it unpublished so I can review it first.” Claude can publish later when you say so.

The Claude guides include a library of 30 prompts for documentation work, from writing and updating pages to reorganizing, translating and auditing them.

Keeping the help center current

A help center is only useful while it is right. Because Claude can search and edit your pages, maintenance becomes a request instead of a project: “Find pages that mention the old pricing and update them” or “Move the refund article under Billing.” Every change Claude makes is saved as a page revision authored Claude (MCP), so you can review it and restore an earlier version if needed.

On Enterprise, Claude can also read your help center analytics, including what readers searched for. Asking “What did readers search for this month that found nothing?” gives you a list of missing articles. The OpenDocs plugin’s docs-audit skill turns the same idea into a structured review of missing, stale and hard-to-use pages.

Let customers ask Claude about your help center

Once your help center is public on a paid plan, it is also a read-only connection customers can add to their own Claude. The address is your help center’s address plus /mcp, for example https://help.yourcompany.com/mcp. Claude can then list your spaces, read the table of contents, search and read full articles, and link its answers back to the exact page.

No sign-in is needed and nothing private is exposed: only published pages in public spaces are shared, never drafts or unlisted and private spaces. Your docs header shows an Add to Claude button with the address and steps, and you can switch the connection off for any space in its settings.

What a help center on OpenDocs includes

You can publish a help center on the Free plan, with one space, one member and a Powered by OpenDocs badge. Pro adds unlimited spaces, a custom domain, custom themes and AI translation with your own Anthropic API key, so the same articles can serve customers in 38 languages. Readers are always free, however many customers visit. Compare every plan on the pricing page.

Developers on your team can contribute from the terminal as well. With OpenDocs for Claude Code, they can turn a product repository into reference pages that sit next to your help articles. For everything Claude can do in OpenDocs, see Use OpenDocs with Claude.

Plans at a glance: publishing a help center and connecting Claude from claude.ai work on the Free plan. A custom domain requires Pro. The customer-facing Claude connection is included on Pro, Enterprise and Compliance, and during the 14-day Pro trial. Help center analytics are part of Enterprise.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude build a whole help center by itself?

Claude can create the space, plan the sections and write the articles you ask for. You stay in control: ask it to leave pages unpublished, review them in OpenDocs, and publish when you are ready.

Do I need a paid plan to publish a help center?

No. You can publish on the Free plan: 1 space, 1 member, with a Powered by OpenDocs badge. A custom domain for your help center requires the Pro plan.

Can customers ask Claude questions about my help center?

Yes, on Pro, Enterprise and Compliance, and during the 14-day Pro trial. Customers add your help center’s address plus /mcp to their own Claude. It is read-only and needs no sign-in.

How do I find articles that are missing?

On Enterprise, ask Claude what readers searched for that found nothing, or run the docs-audit skill from the OpenDocs plugin to get a ranked list of missing, stale and hard-to-use pages.

What if Claude gets an article wrong?

Edit it yourself in the visual editor, or ask Claude to fix it. Every version is saved in page history, so you can restore an earlier one at any time.
